New rule: anyone who can write something as universally moving and comic as Monsters Inc, Big Hero 6, or Inside Out, is not allowed to die.  We simply need writers like Daniel Gerson to go on forever.  Like many screenwriters, Gerson was probably unknown to most of his moviegoing audiences, but they (and all of us) have been immeasurably touched by his work.

Gerson, according to Variety Magazine, had be battling brain cancer for some time and passed away at his home in Los Angeles.  He is survived by his wife and two children.

While we certainly lost what stories might have come from a longer life, we will enjoy and continue to be affected by Gerson’s work.  It was and is without peer.

  1. Right. Artists, musicians, writers and others of singular creative spark die, one after the next, like Dominos falling over, but not a single Congressperson has bit it in over a year? I smell a fix.
