Let’s take two of our favorite things and mash them together…dinosaurs and superheroes. The result: some of the greatest comic book sequences in history! The even cooler part is that it happens pretty frequently in comics. That’s right, comic book writers and artists have been pitting their titular superheroes against evil dinos for years, and it never loses its “cool factor”. But what if we had to sum up the Top 3 superhero vs dinosaur face-off moments in comic book history? Check out our list below and let us know about your favorite moments!
Wolverine & Black Bolt VS “Venom T-Rex”
The only thing depressing about this one is the fact that we probably won’t see anything remotely close to this sequence in the upcoming Logan film. However, in the famous Old Man Logan comics, a tattered and exhausted Wolverine finds himself pitted against one of his most terrifying foes…ever. That’s right, in the dystopian apocalyptic future, Venom crawled its way across the Dakotan plains, looking for a new host…ultimately settling on a lone Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Savage Land! The result is a terrifying chase sequence a la Jurassic Park (uh…must…go…faster!), with Wolverine and Hawkeye narrowly escaping, and an “explosive” showdown with an elderly Black Bolt. With a mere whisper, Black Bolt obliterates the T-Rex and the Venom symbiote. If you haven’t read this sequence, you’re really missing out.
Spider-Man & Devil Dinosaur in the Savage Land
Pick up a copy of Avenging Spider-Man #14 for this awesome sequence. Spidey has to take on a pack of fire-breathing velociraptors, but is assisted by Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy. Side note: if you aren’t already familiar with Devil Dinosaur, please do yourself a favor and check him out…you’re welcome in advance.
Hulk VS Dinosaurs…with Cowboys?
Ok, so maybe I’m a bit biased on this one (I AM a sucker for a cool cowboy western), but it’s really quite simple: Hulk plus cowboys plus dinosaurs equals AWESOME. When the timeline gets upset yet again (damnit, Barry Allen…), Hulk mysteriously finds himself in the year 1873 and must rely on the help from Two-Gun Kid, Kid Colt, and Rawhide Kid to stop a rampaging hoard of dinos. Yeah…’nuff said.
